At the Healthy Food for Families Open Forum, we will explore issues and initiatives aimed at ensuring that Wisconsin’s children and families have access to enough healthy, safe food. Primary care providers play a critical role in screening for food insecurity, but need to direct families to assistance, not just identify the problem. Leading an active, healthy life can be difficult depending on a family’s social determinants of health. Topics include:

• Definitions of common terms used by programs, statutes and professionals dealing with nutrition and and physical activity
• Households with the highest risk of food insecurity
• Recommendations for screening in the primary care setting
• Federal and state efforts and resources
• Details on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the Child Nutrition Reauthorization Act and other statutes
• How to identify resources for families in your local community
